Destinations - Drives - half-day experiences & hikes
Rochester Panel
This scenic, mile-long (round-trip) walk/hike follows the side of a rock outcropping to a stunning petroglyph panel. This short hike is an ideal trail for all ages with low levels of elevation change. The panel and view are definitely worth the walk.
Molen Reef Petroglyphs and Dinosaur Footprints
While not a defined trail, this family-friendly jaunt is an excellent addition to sight-seeing or a longer hike. Approximately 1/3 of a mile from the main road you’ll find a vivid depiction of a snake etched into the rock. Farther down the road, you’ll discover fossilized dinosaur footprints protruding from a rock’s surface.
Devil’s Canyon
Over 6 miles in length, Devil’s Canyon trail is a moderate hike winding its way through desert gullies and washes. An early morning start would allow ample time for hiking followed by relaxation on one of the surrounding lakes or sightseeing on the drive to and from the Canyon.
Wedge Overlook Loop
If you’re in the mood for a stroll with a fantastic view, walking the upper rim of the Wedge will fit the bill nicely. A 45 minute drive from the Lodge lands you next to one of Utah’s best kept secrets: the Little Grand Canyon. The rim is an easy walk, but you may find yourself wanting to climb rocks and slots rather than simply trailing the top.

Buckhorn Wash
This scenic wash boasts a stunning portrait of the past in one large, bold pictograph panel and several smaller petroglyphs. Along the way, you can spot the signature of infamous outlaw Butch Cassidy and pursuing deputy Matt Warner etched into the rock. You may even be able to find a well-preserved three-toed dinosaur footprint just off the beaten path.
Swinging Bridge
Just down the wash from Buckhorn panel, you’ll find a swinging bridge, constructed pre-World War II. This novel bridge spans the San Rafael River and provides an intriguing vantage point for observing the surrounding scenery as you stroll across the weathered wooden planks.
Goblin Valley
A stunning drive down Wolf Mountain Pass will bring you to Goblin Valley--an expansive flat filled with unique and strange rock formations known as hoodoos. Even if you’re not one to hike, the view from the gazebo is worth the drive.

You’ll be shocked when you crest the hill and find the earth falling away from you into a 1,000 foot deep canyon. This stunning natural marvel will leave you breathless.
Mohrland Ghost town
Built by the mining community and abandoned soon after, this ghost town holds hints of the past with remnants of a railroad and town buildings lying strewn about--enough to inspire imagination of what the past must have been.
